Think about the Internet and business for a moment. Wikipedia defines the Internet as, “The worldwide, publicly accessible series of interconnected computer networks that transmit data…It is a “network of networks” that consists of millions of smaller domestic, academic, business and government networks, which together carry information and services…”

An estimated 1.3 billion people have access to the Internet and initiatives are underway to increase that access to include the other 80% (5.3 billion) of the world’s population. I would call the Internet, “The World’s Largest Emerging Market”. Everyone craves information and the Internet is a system that delivers that desire.

But why do we look to the Internet for our ultimate business model? The answer lies in the “Qualities” we seek to enjoy from the business endeavor itself.

  1. Of course, a viable business needs a market and we pretty much covered that area to begin with. 1.3 billion people with a capacity to grow 5 fold in the coming years qualifies the market. Over a billion people think of the Internet when they need something today and more than not, the initial research and exploration is done online.

  2. Freedom is a highly desired quality for those interested in running their own business. In the not too distant past, owning a business had elements of the ball and chain and being eternally tethered to your enterprise location or hours of operation.

    With an online business, this dilemma may be overcome more easily. The Internet is open and working 24/7 so that anytime someone has a need, your business can service that need without you needing to be on location. You can be doing business online while you sleep, exercise, and vacation or enjoy your freedom from being tied to one location.

    Wherever you, your computer and an Internet connection are, your business is too. This is a truly mobile lifestyle allowing you the freedom to move around at will.

  3. The other freedom is time. You can now set your hours around the rest of your life, rather than having to live your life around your business hours. The more efficient you become at operating your business online, the more time you are able to free up for other life- enhancing pursuits like relationships and family.

  4. Unlimited income and growth are other qualities greatly desired by an aspiring business owner. This goes hand in hand with the freedom quality just discussed. As your business grows larger and generates more income, you are able to delegate more and more of the daily responsibilities to others allowing more time to pursue your heart’s desires. Internet business is designed to take on a life of its own and growth can be exponential.

  5. Opportunity for increased specialization is a desirable feature of an Internet business. With a world wide market you are no longer constrained by a limited local appeal. You are free to grow your special interest from a pool of potential customers which is large enough to support your passion. More passion about your business means more personal fulfillment. When you love what you do, you tend to do more

  6. The converse of specialization is also available. With an existing client base, you are able to branch out into more fields of interest and cover more ground from one home base. This allows for you to pursue multiple avenues without being spread too thin. The Internet is well geared to expansion.

    The capacity to add new marketing outlets to your existing business is virtually unlimited. The Internet is quite dynamic, always growing and changing. Pay attention to these changes and you can grow and change right along with it resulting in realizing all your business dreams and goals.
